  It's true!  Even if you get the $500+ part from somewhere (eg.
www.micsol.com) it's far more than the $300-500ish a L50 is going for on
Ebay.com

  Sadly, it's never worth repairing a broken LCD on today's laptops -the costs
alone could buy another one.
