Subject: Re: direct cable from win2k to w95?
Haven't used Win2K myself for longer than the first day (when it happily
crashed all by itself! so much for stable), but here's the trick that usually
works.
1) Same Workgroup, different Computer Names.
2) IPX/SPX installed on both (MS oopsy article says Win9X sometimes just can't
go w/o it, even if you've already got TCP/IP installed).
3) Double-check you're using a Laplink/DCC compatible cable, not a regular
printer cable.
4) Make sure both sides have the parallel port set in BIOS to at least
Bi-Directional, if not ECC or ECP. You may have to cycle through them on both
sides to match to find the one that works (some PCs will work on Bi-Dir, but
not on ECP or EPP for strange reasons).
5) Make sure File Sharing is on on both sides in Network Control Panel.
6) Create a folder on both sides and share them.
Test and try again.
