I did the mandrake install, which created the basic file and which worked,
but I added the 'virtual 800 600' lines in a couple of places to make it
work with a bigger virtual screen - most of the dialog boxes in kde don't
fit on a 640*480 screen (though you can pick them up and move them by using
the shift key with the right mouse in the window body)

No - I've never used it past the boot for installation. Christian has (I
think) the drivers.
