Are you sure you didn't just remove the Internet Explorer icon from the
desktop? If you go to Start -> Run and type in "iexplore," you may be able
to launch it ... from there, enable the check box in:
Tools menu -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Show Internet
Explorer on the desktop
