I think (not certain, but pretty sure) that CF memory cards are 'smart' and in comparison SmartMedia memory cards are... well... not-so-smart. AFAIK CFcard to PCcard adapters have no circuitry, they are just pin-to-pin converters (hence it's cheap). When I plug my empty adapter into my L110, neither hardware nor software is aware of it. PCcard (PCMCIA) properties doesn't register it. When I then push in the CFcard - voila, beep, etc - just as if I'd inserted a 'real' PCcard. What I can't figure is why you can get FDD adapters for MemoryStick and SmartMedia - but not CFcards. It's not a physical dimensions problem, and there must be a good reason as I understand CFcard is a more 'popular' memory format than SmartMedia or MemoryStick... If anyone knows of a CFcard to FDD adapter, please let me know - it's something that would be very useful indeed for me. ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
