I think (not certain, but pretty sure) that CF memory cards are 'smart' and
in comparison SmartMedia memory cards are...  well...  not-so-smart.

AFAIK CFcard to PCcard adapters have no circuitry, they are just pin-to-pin
converters (hence it's cheap).

When I plug my empty adapter into my L110, neither hardware nor software is
aware of it.
PCcard (PCMCIA) properties doesn't register it.
When I then push in the CFcard - voila, beep, etc - just as if I'd inserted
a 'real' PCcard.

What I can't figure is why you can get FDD adapters for MemoryStick and
SmartMedia - but not CFcards. It's not a physical dimensions problem, and
there must be a good reason as I understand CFcard is a more 'popular'
memory format than SmartMedia or MemoryStick...

If anyone knows of a CFcard to FDD adapter, please let me know - it's
something that would be very useful indeed for me.
