My 50 stays plugged in 24/7. Mostly shut down and no ill effects for the last 4-5 years. Both batteries seem to still have good life. (1 - standard, 1 - hi-cap). I will leave it to Neil, Pres and some of the others to offer technical advice. Actually I have never seen an in depth discussion from anyone on the list who seemed to know what actually goes on in the battery or the charging circuit. I do know the battery doesn't seem to loose or gain any charge when the 50 is running. (The difference as I recall between the 50 and 70, besides speed was the 70 would charge the battery when running and the 50 won't.)
