I seem to recall getting into a bit of trouble trying something like this
(using "high" partitions without a drive overlay) when I put a 10GB drive
into my L70.

IIRC, The original W98 install saw only 8.4GB. Paritition Magic allowed
me to put in a FAT partition above the 8.4GB *BUT* upon rebooting into
Win98, this new partition "replaced" my C: partition (i.e. the Lib would
not boot from the HD, and when I booted Win98 from a floppy and ran fdisk,
the new partition had become my C: drive). Don't quite recall how I fixed
this - IIRC I started a Linux install so that I could see the whole drive,
and then I deleted the new partition, at which point shutting down the
Linux install and rebooting from the HD restored everything back to
normal.

The moral: if my experience is to be a guide (if my memory is accurate),
and if you're using Win9x, do NOT put a FAT partition above 8.4GB without
using a drive overlay. (It's OK to put Linux partitions up there, as
that's what I've done.)
