Subject: Libretto replacement-ish review

Been lurking for eighteen months now after a change of job meant that I had
to give up my L100, and ended up buying a small ThinkPad.

But recently the motherboard went on the ThinkPad, and while I wait to be
told that its beyond economic repair, I rushed down to Tottenham Court Rd
and spent 725 (+VAT) on a fujitsu-siemens P2020 Lifebook. Its got WinME,
apparently XP is available too, 128Mb, 633Mhz Crusoe, 15MbHD, built-in
modem, one pcmcia slot, 2 USB, firewire (whatever that is ;-) etc.

First impressions are that its a little bigger in all directions than my
much missed L100, and 50% heavier, but it does have a CD/DVD built-in, which
has been more useful than I thought it would be, now that most drivers come
on CDs, or online. The peripherals are a bit lacking but it does have all
three audio sockets, which I use heavily, and with USB's ubiquity these days
I hope I won't miss the serial/mouse/keyb ports.

Most annoyingly it has a proprietary (as far as I know) SVGA port and the
adapter to D-type is not included (despite the salesperson's assurance ;-).
There is an S-video out as well though, but I haven't got anything else with
that! (cf firewire comment)

The screen seems very clear and its nice to be back to the Libretto-style
format. Just finishing my first 24hours of ownership during which I've
re-installed programs and data, and it goes into standby/hib perfectly so
far. Not sure what battery life will be like but it lasted for two hours
earlier today and reported 41% remaining.

Not a true Libretto replacement but pretty close........but the most
frustrating thing is that I recently discovered that my old L100 has been
lying in a drawer unused and the company have agreed to let me have it, but
I couldn't get hold of the person who has to release it to me!!

Chris
