Standby keeps everything in memory (RAM) but the CPU and >system only goes into a low-power mode. In Hibernate, everything in RAM is >written to HD, then the machine turns off completely. Only Hibernate has >the Libretto writing to disk picture. Hmmm... I must be experiencing that one in a million experience again then, 'cause I've never used, or even heard of 'hibernation' until recently, and I've been executing START > SHUT DOWN > STANDBY since I got my L50 Jan 01 1998, and have always watched the "Libretto writing to disk picture" as you put it! I have finally heard from the guy I bought the HDD from on EBay, and he's got it out to me via UPS ground, CA > FL, so I'll be able to play with all this soon.
