OK I think I know at least ONE place where I'm stuffing up trying to get PCMCIA working on this thing. When I execute /usr/src/linux/pcmcia-cs-3.1.8/Configure it asks me for an 'Alternate target install directory' and provides a default of /var/tmp/kernel-2.2.14-5.0-root ... when I do the rest of the kernel stuff and whatnot then try to plug the card in, I get a pile of missing files when I look in /var/log/messages such as floppy.o and floppy_cs.o. It turns out, these files are in /var/tmp/kernel-whatever and Linux can't see them. Can anyone shed some light on what I should do here? I'm reluctant to put a 'real' path into 'Alternate target install' because I don't want to risk overwriting something important ... On a separate note, I've sorta got networking going now ... I don't know HOW I got it working and the recompiled kernel is far from stable (when I boot I get 3 more errors than I did before and if I execute cardctl eject then plug in the floppy disk drive I get a kernel panic for instance) ... good thing I didn't overwrite my old kernel! The curious thing is all this worked even without me turning on anything in 'make menuconfig' (simply because I couldn't FIND anything related to PCMCIA to turn on! Under 'General setup' there is no mention of PCMCIA and there is no mention of the Libretto floppy disk drive under 'Block devices' (the second entry is 'Enhanced IDE/MFM/RLL disk/cdrom/tape/floppy support'). Anyways, any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated! - Raymond --- /~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\ | | "Does fuzzy logic tickle?" | | ___ | "My HDD has no reverse.
