Whilst I hear some people HAVE been manage to do a Linux install all on the
libby, I mucked around with it for a week before giving up and getting a
$7USD hard drive converter and installing it from a desktop. Just do the
install as you would normally (make sure you boot from the libby's hard
drive and activate any overlay that you might wish to use when you put it
back in the libby). Don't worry about it detecting weird things but don't
set up X or any other drivers just yet. When you put the hard drive back
into the libby, Kudzu will reconfigure the stuff that would have been
autoconfigured then you can go and configure X, PCMCIA, IrDA, drivers,
sound and so-on in the libby. A LOT easier than trying to get PCMCIA
installs working ... and Kudzu actually does a pretty good job (my current
L100 Red Hat 6.2 install went from being in my Athlon XP1600+ with SB Live,
3 video cards and Intel Ethernet NIC to being in a L50 with a 16bit NIC to
being in my L100 with a Cardbus NIC and weird X setup and for the most
part, Kudzu took care of most of the reconfiguring with the exception of X
and some of the PCMCIA stuff).

I posted a step-by-step this-is-what-I-did-and-the-walls-I-ran-into thingy
to this list a while back when I got my 20 gig hard drive with EZ-Bios
working in my L50 booting Linux and Win95, perhaps you might want to have a
peek in the archives for it.

Hope this helps!
