Actually I'm pretty sure that XF86Config needs to have the correct setup for
the Tosh LCD and C&T driver on this L50. /var/log/xdm-error.log reports
that it couldn't find a valid mode (video), and says it's switching back to
runlevel 3.

The end of file looks like this:

========================================

        VGA16 Mode "512x384" needs vert refresh rate of 77.9Hz Deleted
               [Note: There are a few dozen of these lines ^]

        VGA16 maximum allowed dot-clock matching mode "640x480"
        VGA16 Removing mode "640x480" from list of valid modes
        VGA16 There's no mode definition named "800x600"

        Fatal server error

                        ditto
                        ditto     ...
        switching back to runlevel 3

========================================

Neal had me set "runlevel = 3" in /etc/inittab which got me access to the
KDE desktop via 'startx'. With "runlevel = 5" set, when I run startx, a few
lines of commands scrolls by, and the system stops with a blinking cursor
sitting on the left edge of the screen. Eventually I can hit 'Enter' and
access the command line.

Matt
