I own a Libretto 50CT with Windows 95, and have not been able to =
successfully install a serial mouse, using the basic port replicator and =
a PS/2 mouse with a serial adapter.

What Matt said should work on Win95b or c (theoretically)... ;-)
It should also work with only one profile by setting the pointing-device-mode to "simultaneous". Then make sure to disable the Acupoint in the Windows device list. After booting the Acupoint should still work (although deactivated). Then install your serial mouse driver. Both teh mouse and the Acupoint should work at least for now. Sometimes after rebooting it does not work anymore... Then just repeat the whole procedure. Anyway it should work at least directly after installing the serial mouse drive.
By the way: You cannot plug any PS/2 mouse into a serial adapter (unless you don't need a working mouse). These adapters are only made for "special" mouses. Check if the mouse works with your adapter on another system!

Regards

Olaf
