I own a Libretto 50CT with Windows 95, and have not been able to =
successfully install a serial mouse, using the basic port replicator and =
a PS/2 mouse with a serial adapter.

I have tried everything I can think, and have read here on the list:

Removed all mouse drivers and devices.
Removed COM1 port.
Created new hardware config with only serial mouse.
Set the BIOS pointing device setting to Internal/External.

Regardless of what I try, the Libretto always boots up with the =
accupoint pointer, and never recognizes the serial mouse. Has anyone =
successfully installed a serial mouse, and are there any known =
tips/tricks with this?

Hey Don,

I had that problem with my 50. Some of the earlier models had some kind of hardware conflict that I don't think was ever resolved. Local repair shops gave up on it. Then I got a sharp Toshiba support person who knew something that none before or after him seemed to know. But it looks you've already touched base there.

And that was to create a 2nd hardware profile in Windows, 'System Properties > Hardware Profiles' specifically for the serial mouse. I don't know if I have the exact order of doing that around any more. But if you keep playing around at different attacks, you might work it out.

Seems like it was:

1. Create a new profile.
2. Disable the accupoint mouse in that profile.
3. Shut down system & attach serial mouse.
4. Boot up and choose your new profile from the DOS menu.
5. Set up your serial mouse drive in Windows.

Chances are that you've been that route, huh? I did it successfully with W95 when the Tosh tech ran it by me, and it worked well for a year or so. Then I installed W98, and I was never able to duplicate the feat. Despite disabling the accupoint mouse, and no matter what else I tried, only the accupoint mouse would ever work, whether I wanted it to or not. I just assumed there was some difference between W95 and W98 that caused the problem. I never really tried, or wanted to reinstall W95.

But it >should< be possible to get that serial mouse going on the 50's SPR. Of course my solution in W98 was to get an EPR and just use a PS/2 mouse. That gave me an extra PCMCIA slot to boot, and, what was it... a keyboard plug as I recall.

Good luck.

Matt
