Hi Matt
Been partying. Won't be hiking until April or May so the snow will clear
some. Planning on carrying the Libretto and two solar panels- total weight
3.5 lbs so I can use it as a digital photo storage device, trail jornal, and
Waiting 'till there's no >snow<! Gee... I thought you were really going to go the full iditarod thing with a bunch of Huskies and mucklucks!
Well... as you've probably read, I finally got my L100 o/ced and XP installed. I'm still not entirely sure if the crashes I was having with the L100 were because of the W98SE installation, or some problem with the L100 hardware. Within hours of setting up XP, it crashed, and has crashed a few times since then for no reason I can see. The thermal shutdown was obvious, as I could see it go into hibernation. But a few times now, I'll be multitasking a few things, and all of a sudden it's like someone pulled the cord from a light, and it suddenly just turned off.
It happened 2-3 times in a row when I was online writing Hotmail messages, and had the WinXP CD in the CD-ROM drive trying to open and display all of the hundreds of files in the \i386 folder to find a file name I was looking for. Maybe that was overloading things, don't know.
The other thing I've had problems with on this L100, is the cordless, optical Logitech mouse. The old W98SE system used to crash a lot with it, so I switched to the standar mouse w/tail model, and that seemed to help.
So I'm back to the rat tail setup here, and just waiting to see how long it will go without crashing. I know XP is supposed to be very stable. Maybe it will just take a while to get things tweaked.
Well, sounds like Spring has begun to sprong up there. Enjoy the good days while you can. There's still more March to come!
Good seeing you posting again John.
Ciao,
Shmatt
