Subject: Nero/M820E problems

Hi David,

I got a reply from Nero today (..after a week. They must be busy!):

1. Set 'DMA if possible' on all available drives
2. Use "Drivers CleanTool.exe" to remove Roxio driver.

I know the Roxio driver is not the problem, because this is a newly installed OS, and I didn't install Easy CD Creator until after days of testing Nero. I couldn't find the file(s) name(s) to rename and disable it, so I asked them to point out the file name and I'd give it a try. Am a bit tired from installing, uninstalling and reinstalling software at this point.

But would you check this on your W2K setup if you could at: 'Device Manager > "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" > Advanced Settings'

I'm assuming "Device 0" is my IBM-DYKA-23240 hard drive, where "Transfer Mode" is set to "DMA if available", and the "Current Transfer Mode" setting is grayed out, and set to "PIO Mode".

So guess the M820E should be "Device 1". I have "Transfer Mode" there also set to "DMA if available". The "Current Transfer Mode" setting is also grayed out, but shows it's set to "Not Applicable". Is that what you have? The Nero log file shows "DMA: Off" for this drive. And I don't know if it's possible to force DMA there.

I don't quite understand whether or not the M820E actually falls under the catagory of an "IDE/ESDI" drive, though I think I've seen info somewhere that it does translate to that somehow. But I'm wondering if the SCSI interface might be causing some problem with this DMA setting.

I've got to get out and enjoy the weather now. We only have a month or so before the hot humidity takes over, and exercise becomes something that makes me prefer being back out there doing!

As always, thanks for the help David!

Ciao for now,

Shel
