Xin wired one up to his Libretto years ago, as did other Libretto users here
and in Japan. Noise was the particular point of note - wasn't as clean as it
ought to be.
I'd didn't know that. Anyway, it's really not just a noise problem. The voltage is too high according to the specs for decent sound which is surprizing from Yamaha. It is at 2.8 where it should be at about 2. Plus the frequencies are very narrow for good sound.

LAME MP3 encoder is considered to be the 'best' MP3 converter in general available to convert any sound into MP3 format. Highly optimized, and incredibly hard to beat at any bitrate by other MP3 encoders in terms of encoded MP3 sound quality. My highly recommend, esp. when used with standard switches (eg. lame --alt-preset standard or lame --alt-present insane)
APR uses the Lame plugin to encode. If you compare it to what Real does plus with what Real sounds like I think you'll find Lame has some competition!!:)) I compared a really bad sounding U2 wav (you know how tinny U2 sounds?) Real cleaned it up nice to where you actually could listen to it without screaming in pain. I also tried Lame. Lame really didn't do much. And on the Libby with its lack of ram--Real not only uses less cpu--under 100% but it can do realtime recording AND converting at the highest available bitrate it has at fixed or variable. It is very nice. If it didn't have that silly web browser built in as the library program it'd actually be pretty good.
