If anyone would like to try getting their Libbys running Win98SE hooked up to share a dialup connection, I have found that it >is< supposed to be possible. I got the 'gateway', or primary system set up with settings that seem to look correct. But I can't seem to get the secondary system to see the Inet connection.
I'm wondering if it's because I ran Windows Update, and updated everything including ugrading IE 5.5 > 6.0. I'm wondering at this point if IE6.0 may be the problem. If someone with IE 5.x can get things working, that may give me a clue.
Here's a post I've just submitted to the CServe WUGNET Windows Support Forum with a URL where the process is detailed:
--------------------------
I can't seem to get Internet Connection Sharing to work on two systems running Windows 98SE. I'm starting to wonder if it's because I've upgraded to IE 6.0.
The process of setting it up on the primary system seems to go well. Connection sharing shows up for adapters in the Network settings properly with the 'Home' adapter set to and IP address of: 192.168.0.1
But the floppy created in the process of installing ICS doesn't seem to configure the client system to be able to access the gateway system.
It's been hard to find info on the process. But this URL indicated that the 'Internet Properties' > 'Connections' tab should change on the client system to look like this:
http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/icshchck.htm
The Connection tab is supposed to have a setting to enable, "Connect to the Internet using a local area network".
The previous page on that site shows the process that checked out to be properly setup on my primary system:

I've checked and re-checked settings, and I can only guess that maybe my IE 6.0 may be the problem, as I've only seen mention of IE 5.5.
