I've had a similar situation with a CD-less laptop. Solved my problem
with a "backpack" cd drive that connects to a parallel port. Borrowed
mine from the IS guys here at work, but also scored one from Ebay
for $30, as it seemed like a handy thing to have around.

You might try a USB floppy drive, the Sony one worked on other Lib Japanese
models.
