Hmm ... well I've fixed headphones about 3 times this way and I'm using a 15w iron ... maybe you need to add solder whilst that's happening, I believe the flux in the solder will help (I generally put the solder on and have the wire in the solder blob within a second so I guess it still has some residual flux sitting there that's enough to make the solder take) ...

I wonder if the enamel on this wire is using some new space-age bullet-proof chemical formula. I did in fact do just what you described... just added more and more solder hoping the added mass of solder, heat, and flux would eventually strip the wire down to the copper and tin it. Or it very well just be me. I solder things maybe once every year, or up to several years can go by. So I'm always rusty. Dealing with the microscopic size of things these days is also a problem I apply a 2nd pair og glasses to deal with. :-P
