I am hunting for ways to get more RAM for my L100, or alternatives to more RAM. I have 64MB memory now, and with one application plus WLAN card am using appx 90-95MB memory. Each additional application uses 15-20MB more memory. So my hard drive is working pretty hard (and, in fact, appears to be dying - see my other post). I have a couple of questions.
First, can the Libretto use any other memory module? I notice the 64MB module for the Toshiba Portege 3010/Libretto L1010 looks very similar to the 32MB module for the L100 - same connector, almost the same size and seems it would fit if I found some way to reposition the connector for the BIOS battery. Does anyone know if this module works?
Second, can I put the Windows swap file on an ATA flash PCMCIA card? These can be had, in 128MB size, for <$100.
Third, I see you can still buy DRAM PCMCIA cards, but unfortunately only up to 32MB (excluding some special memory cards which seem to be meant for Cisco products). This wouldn't be big enough for the whole swap file. Has anyone found a way to tell Windows to use a DRAM card for the most-accessed part of the swap file, and then the hard drive for the rest of the swap file?
I know the RAM limitations have been hashed around a lot - I'm hoping there's a solution. I did search the archives but didn't see anything. There was some talk about building custom memory modules but it did not seem to go anywhere. A European vendor was advertising a 64MB L100 module but we've corresponded - he does not have any in stock and doesn't know when he'll get any.
