From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
A work colleague has been trying to install a fresh copy of W98se on his very old Tosh laptop with really bad results. No matter how the OS install is attempted - from CDROM using Setup, copying the CD to the HDD and running Setup, copying the CDROM and manually extracting the CAB files, using different W98se CDs - there is always a failure, usually related to an inability to find or copy files.
The hard drive is reformatted before every install attempt.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Has he had scandisk do a complete surface scan to detect bad sectors? Has he run the drive manufacturer's test utility (like IBM/Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test) to do a thorough analysis of the HDD?
Matt
