Subject: New Lib is a miss. Again :(

Hi!

I am surprised many of you are excited about the release of the new lib. Yes,
compared to some of the machines from the past it looks good. But let's compare
to the better ones.

Asus S200N.

Sorry, I am not sure of where else this model is available, probably under
different name. I think you don't have to know Russian to understand the specs.
Retails from about $1300. I think this one can be directly compared to the new
Lib but is still better despite released a couple of years ago. About the same
size, but bigger (yes, a bit lower resolution) screen (and keyboard?) as it
covers almost all useful area. New lib has some extra features, but come on, if
we include reader for every flash standard inside the case... Who asked for the
fingerprint reader? Really, who needs this?

Indirect comparison. My lib SS1000 dates back to 98. That is 7(!) years ago.
For those of you who don't know, it's like L50/70 but only 1 inch thick and
beats L100/110 in every department except wide screen and video memory (sigh).
Uses 6.35 mm thick 2.5" HDD. Today, Tosh makes 1.8" HDD of reasonable capacity,
single-platter versions are 5 mm thick (use strange connector, anybody knows
how to convert to standard 44 pins?). We all know we went down to 90 nm from
250 nm since then. So don't clock it at 1 GHz but go for, say, 300 MHz instead
and it will still be very acceptable, dissipating even less heat than original
mobile iP-MMX. The entire machine would be like 1/2 of 50/70 (with the wide
screen and Libretto-type mouse - my choice, or with very wide screen and
pointer inside the keyboard). But where is it? Waited 7 years, still counting...

So, I am frustrated again. *They* ARE again misleading us. No choice again.
They'd better continue making new battery packs so that people don't have to
risk their lives :).

Just my 2 roubles.

Regards,
Vitaly

P.S. Presence of the fan must be included in the specs. Or am I out of luck
trying to find fanless notebook today and forever?
