Cell replacement may be the best option, but it involves welding the strips 
you've discovered.  I (and others) have bought PA2498UR packs intended for the 
L50/70 series and just swapped the guts into the PA2503UR or PA2502UR cases.

If you on-line search diligently for the Panasonic part numbers shown on the 
cells in your pack, you'll locate some sources for new replacements.  Other 
listers have provided this info in the past as well.
