Subject: RE: [LIB] OT - USB floppy ERD
From: Vitaly Pavlenko <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Because of having a small kid I cannot afford having a floppy drive in my
desktop computer. Had a crash recently and learnt about ERD, never cared
before. Went out and bought USB floppy. Now I can boot off it and can
create ERDs. But will I be able to restore from the ERD after booting off
Win2000 CD?
I don't undertsand that Vitaly. You have a USB floppy drive connected to
your Libretto. You have made a ERD (presumably a W2K Emergency Repair
Disk). And you're asking if it will help restore W2K after booting from a
W2K CD.
1st... The Librettos won't boot from a CD-ROM drive. In order to make
repairs with the ERD, I >think< you have to access the W2K Recovery Console.
Or more probably, I think you have to start the W2K installation program,
I'm not certain. The RC can be created as a boot option, or it can be
accessed (installed?) by running a command line that accesses files in a
subdirectory in the W2K installation files/folders if you've copied them
over to your HDD.
Here's instructions on how to install RC on W2K:

However it seems that when I had to recover access to my W2K instalation, I
actually had to run the W2K installation program again, and then choose an
option to repair the installation. As I recall, that meant starting the
system with a W98 boot floppy, running smartdrv.exe, and running I think it
was winnt.exe to start the W2K installation process. For me, the ERD was
only useful >after< I started that repair process, and navigated a few
menus.
