2006/7/15, John Hurliman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
We have a group in SL now that's open to join, it will be in charge of
the land as soon as that happens.

I cant join...

I also want to point out that there is also a Free Software group
(where I am officer). I don't know how many of you are using Linux,
but some of the Linux users also have made some hacks for the Linux
client. I could imagine that libsecondlife could make some things
going in Linux cleint that right now aren't because it is alpha. And I
would be happy to see this implemented as free software -maybe we do
not need it to be programmed proprietary, than.

A few words about myself:
I am not a programmer, but active in the free software community since
many years. I have set up SecondTux wiki (for Linux users):
http://stux.wikiinfo.org/ , which collects information about available
tools and stuff that helps Linux users (like Avimator). I have also
organized some meetings in the past (the first Linux Group meetings
but after a split I formed the Free Software Group in SL, btw
everybody is invited to join!). Summer was hot and I did not organized
any meetings.

But I think I see a lot of traffic and activity here, but I did not
see any inworld meetings? So I would like to suggest one. I think it
is always fun to meet people directly and also not only to meet few. I
guess all of you are SL users? So we would need a meeting point and we
should have a time that also allows non-US citizens to come by. What
about next saturday at 12 pm? But I think the officers of this group
should organize the rest and maybe also have some good places to meet?
If we have a date I will also invite members of free software group
where we also had some good discussions about what is possible in SL .

I am actually very surprised that so much is happening here. And I am
quite happy about it. Actually the reason of the split of the Linux
Users group was that that many of Linux users seemed to be against
opening the source of SecondLife which led to many harsh words. And I
think it is great that many ppl here are just doing it and also that
there is support of Linden Labs. I also think that libsecondlife only
is the beginning of a development and that we will see a lot more
projects building on it.
