Yes, well, dictating style to a large number of people, many of whom will never read the style guidelines, is waging a war one cannot win. Additionally, this list is delivered via email. Most users of email are used to new text being on top, above a delimiter reading something like "-----Original Message-----". This is not a forum, and it is not Usenet. It is email, and thus email standards are used by most.
