Hey Johnny Luong provided a patch to libcurl that makes it read and acknowledge the data in the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file. (I'm cc'ing this mail to Johnny.)
I have the feeling this functionality is better suited for libssh2 rather than libcurl so that other SSH-users can benefit from it. Anyone else share this feeling?
