I definitely agree that link and install modes need to be fast. Apparent libtool slowness becomes very evident for a GraphicsMagick "modules" build where some 90 or so modules are built and need to be installed. Of course it is quite likely that this apparent libtool slowness should actually be attributed to linker slowness.
