It looks like there are loads of places in libtool.m4 that use echo rather than $echo, in most of those it probably doesn't matter, but is there any objection to changing all of them anyway?
Note, the echo not $echo mentioned in this bug seems to be the one in _LT_CONFIG_STATUS_DECLARE, that one *really* needs to be $echo :)
