So, it seems they were using an older version of libtool now suddenly:
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.5 (1.1220.2.1 2003/04/14 22:48:00)
And upgrading seems to have fixed it.
That's very good news (I don't have to do anything, or feel guilty
about not doing anything).
