This looks like the ksh bug that has turned up now and then. I haven't checked whether anyone has analyzed or fixed it by now. For now could you try working around it by configuring with a different shell (bash, zsh, another ksh, in that order of preference) that is installed on your system? IOW, please build libtool like this: CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/bash /bin/bash ./configure [...more flags...] gmake env VERBOSE=yes gmake check and send all output (packed with gzip or bzip2) if you still encounter test failures.
