All,

I am pleased to announce libusbx-1.0.18-rc1.

The most important news with regards to this release is that v1.0.18
(currently planned in 2 weeks time) will be the very last release of
libusbx, as we are finally merging back with libusb.

As a result, we are issuing two parallel 1.0.18 releases: one for
libusbx and one for libusb, with parallel RCs as well (there will be an
announcement for libusb 1.0.18 RC1 shortly), and with the patches from
one repo being carried over into the other, until release date.

As far as the code is concerned, the current libusb repository and the
current libusbx repository can be considered identical, and of course
the libraries are fully interchangeable, up to the latest libusbx
features and bug fixes. The only difference between the library stands
in one commit, that updates most of the comments and documentation that
was referencing libusbx, into referencing the updated libusb.

As your schedule permits, we will encourage current libusbx users and
followers to start switching to libusb, by using the following:

o Main site: http://libusb.info
o Git repository: https://github.com/libusb/libusb
o SF repository: https://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb/
o Mailing list: libusb-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

Of course, even after libusbx v1.0.18 is out, libusbx will not be
retired right away: the existing site and repositories will continue to
be operational, and we will continue to monitor this mailing list.

For those interested the full ChangeLog for this release is below.
As usual, you can find links to the libusbx RC, including the Windows RC
binaries by using the Download menu from http://libusbx.org... or
http://libusb.info, if you are ready to make the switch to libusb.

Regards,

/Pete
