Answering my own question, I suppose I could allocate a fixed buffer and

And when alloc is called, simply return this fixed buffer.

In pyuv I allocate a static buffer which is reused all the time. You probably want to have it per loop (I need to change that), to avoid possible problems if you are using multiple loops in different threads.

I have vague memories about Bert mentioning that this could be a problem on Windows, maybe he can clarify.
