Why do you keep your own queued_bytes? The stream already does that
for you.

Well, I don't think haveing some data queued is a bad thing. Just set
on some low and high watermaks: when more than "high" bytes are
pending, stop writing, when less than "low" bytes are pending, resume.

I have no idea what .queued_bytes is. The libuv styream's
write_queue_size keeps the value until the callback is called, even if
data was sent a bit earlier, this is so that you can use it in the way
I described above.

I don't think there is a silver-bullet-value. If you put the
mechanisms inplace you can then do your own benchmarks. You could also
look into what values Node uses, as a reference.
