The docs for uv_read_start() say: "When nread < 0, the buf parameter might not point to a valid buffer; in that case buf.len and buf.base are both set to 0."
This sounds to me that despite if there's an error (nread < 0) signaled to the read_cb buf.base may very well point to a buffer. (Which we then need to dispose of).
