         here's an interesting thing:

         those scripts we've been running have been trained on mysite.com 
and xxx.com, and the scripts fail.

         and when i try to check https://mysite.com and https://xxx.com 
with a browser, it can't get there, either.

         however, the scripts work when pointed at microsoft.com, and 
cdnow.com, and any of the other sites that actually have a legal HTTPS 
front page.

         so: i don't think the LWP/SSL connection is entirely broken... 
just the test cases were.  :)

         however, i'm still not sure about the LWP/HTTPS/POST combination 
yet.  more on that later.
