This is offtopic, but since this newsletter deals alot in communications with webservers i figured id ask and see if anyone knew.
 
How does a site like yahoo.com handle the database of millions of users.  When someone goes to login, it would have to basically run a select statement across a 10million row database correct?
 
Is it just a combo of indexing and a uber db server? or is it spread across multiple servers somehow.
