One thing I forgot to mention about my patch, is you need to specify
the https proxy as https://proxy:port/ instead of http. I didn't figure
out why, it just worked that way. One other thing that could be improved
about my patch, is to integrate keepalive support into it. The keepalive
stuff in David's patch didn't apply cleanly to 5.48, as 5.48 has some
beginnings of keepalive support in it. For my use, I'm only making
one request per script, so it wasn't something I was setup to debug.
