crud.  that's not going to work.  next is a read-only property.  trying to assign to it gives this error

NoMethodError: undefined method `next='

Any other ideas?

We should probably have a replace_with method on XML::Node. It can be done
easily enough from ruby:

class XML::Node
   def replace_with(other)
     self.next = other
     remove!
   end
end

You'll have to give me some time on the replace by index functionality
from REXML. In the meantime, anyone have comments on adding this in?
