Summary: Build fails on FreeBSD due to incomplete include paths
Initial Comment:
The 0.8.0 gem doesn't include /usr/local/include in the search path in the
extension Makefile, resulting in:
make

Stop in /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/libxml-ruby-0.8.0/ext/libxml.
I'm not familiar enough with mkmf to see what the best fix is, but hacking it
into $INCFLAGS does the trick.
