Hi Ian,
I just switched over a chunk of code to use libxml-ruby expecting to see improvements in performance and memory usage. While performance is drastically better, memory usage has increased quite significantly.With REXML parsing a 3.8mb document would consume 259mb, however with libxml-ruby parsing the same document consumes around 407mb.
Try trunk. Joe recently checked in a change that significantly reduces memory usage on OS X.
