I stand corrected on the point about the origin of free software. I had distinctly remembered reading that Stallman had a correct version on one machine (say a Lisp Machines computer) and wanted it for another machine (say Symbolics) but couldn't get or use the correct version due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement. However, maybe that is just an urban myth or an error in my recall.
