I suffered this problem too, but I just surrendered and turned
the dock off completely.

The most strange thing about it is that under FreeBSD, which I use
in office, everything works good. Well, almost... ;-)
Sometimes it just refuses to dockup. Two-three restarts and it's in
the dock again.

I had never been that lucky under Linux, though...
