Yes, that is a known problem. Just compile without KDE support, and
everything should be fine.

For me, the text only disappears when using oxygen style so Kde4-Gui
should be usable if another style is set.
However, since Oxygen is the default style in KDE4 I guess this would be
a problem for most people.
