Note that I was having the same (or a similar) problem not too long ago with 
the KDE-highcolor style. The backtrace and other info should be in the ML 
archives. Note that you can switch the style for just this program by running 
as follows:

licq -p kde-gui -- --style default -s<your skin name>

The -s is /required/ even if you have your skin configured in the config 
file. licq does not properly drop arguments to KDE or Qt after processing 
them. This is also a bug that I've reported before.

It seems that certain themes cause problems with one of the widgets licq 
draws. The KDE Highcolor Default is one, and it seems that the 
High-Performance Liquid has the same problem...

I'd try to debug it, but I don't know enough KDE/Qt to be of any use. =(
