Hi, folks...
This is being sent to Trillian developers and Licq developers, and to
Licq users so they may see what is being said. :)
I am a user of the Linux ICQ client, Licq. I was talking with my
brother this evening via ICQ, when he mentioned that he used Trillian;
I went to the home page and, in a cursory examination of its contents,
noticed that one feature of Trillian (besides its usage of multiple
messaging services) is Blowfish encryption.
Being a fan of encryption, and one who uses it whenever possible, I
did about 30 seconds more investigation, and found that Blowfish is one
of the possible algorithms with the open-source encryption library,
OpenSSL. (www.openssl.org/docs/crypto/blowfish.html) Thinking a
little, I realized that Licq only supports encryption between Licq
clients, and Trillian only supports encryption between Trillians.
Well, since Blowfish is available via the OpenSSL libraries, and Licq
uses OpenSSL, it occurred to me that it might be possible to allow Licq
and Trillian to utilize encryption when talking with each other. I'm
sure I'm not alone in being a Linux user who mostly talks to Windows
users, and I would certainly use encryption when talking with these
users if it were possible.
Therefore I ask the developers of both programs if they have
considered, or would consider, making this possible. I know I would
use this feature if it were available.
Could it be done?
Thanks for your considerable efforts,
and good luck in future,
- --
