I've same same problem here (at work, Suse7.3). 
At home it works fine (Slackware8.0). IMHO, I think its a Suse problem, 
instead of using the source provided by the KDE-team and build a rpm with 
this, they patch their own things to the code -- and make it incompatible 
with other programs as licq. The same is for the kernel, XFree, etc.
