download the two possible rpm-files you find on the download page from
www.licq.org, choose either the licq (both version 1.2.7.)
licq-1.2.7-1.rh9.i386.rpm (redhat 9) -
http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/licq/licq-1.2.7-1.rh9.i386.rpm
or licq-1.2.7-rh8.0.i386.rpm (redhat 8.0) -
http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/licq/licq-1.2.7-rh8.0.i386.rpm
.
then, type in a console/Konsole/xterm/command-line the following, step
by step:
1. cd into your download directory (for exapmle
"cd /homer/yourusername/downloads/" without quotation marks)
2. su ######## means superuser ##########
3. (your root/superuser - password)
4. rpm -Uhv *yourfilename*
(for example rpm -Uhv licq-1.2.7-1.rh9.i386.rpm
5. if there are no error messages, every thing's ok, start your
brand new instant messenger with typing in a console (for example:
"licq" without quotation marks.
ask further questions, no problem. besides, you're hopefully not the
last one to switch from a win-system to a unix/linux system, so, last
but not least :-).
