You can configure the fonts Licq uses in the options dialog.

Yes, silly me discovered this after I had sent my initial mail to the list. =) I mean, I knew I could configure the fonts, but somehow I had got the idea that Licq would reset to the bigger font size on startup even if I did change to a smaller size. It didn't though, and I can live happily now with both Xinerama and small fonts in Licq.
